Founded by George Hamlett in 1946, Club George became a cultural landmark, hosting legendary musicians like Duke Ellington and Count Basie and serving as a gathering place for families and neighbors. Despite its closure in 2006, Club George remains a symbol of resilience and community spirit. "Ode IV: don't take coming back" is an exploration led by Nneka Kai alongside fellow collaborators Quintin Harris and Tiffany Smith. Through the expressive medium of dance, this performance delves into the essence of Club George, drawing from the improvisational spirit of jazz and the enduring vitality of Black life.
